Simple Gifts--Days

I am always thankful for silence and stillness. However, this morning, I am thankful for music. I love to feel the beat, or feel the calmness, or feel the chaos, to feel the sadness or happiness. I love that there is a piece of music that speaks to everyone; I love that it is adaptive. I love that music speaks to the part of the soul that needs healing, that needs happiness, that needs to feel grief, that needs to just feel something. I love that before my son and daughter were speaking sentences, they were singing full songs. I love that before they walked, they danced. I can always tell the phase of life I was in by the music I listened to. Music honors my greatest struggle, marks my happy moments and allows me to feel when I can't. Music is my peace. Music breaks my heart. Music is my grief. Music is my happiness. Music is my sadness. Music is everything I need and nothing I don't. What is your favorite piece of music, either in your life where you are or maybe you have timeless pieces that adapt to you? Here are some of mine:

I am waiting on a lot of answers and a lot of things to develop in my life. This song makes that wait a little easier. I.cry.every.time. I also have a burning desire to run across a field of wheat... weird? Maybe a little.
I used this earlier, but man, am I thankful that this song discovered me, right where I am.

Bawl, every time...

With or without words, this song is so beautiful to me. It brings me such happiness, no matter what is going on in my life. It helps me to remember to always be thankful, for whatever I have and to not be bitter about what I don't. 'Tis a gift to be simple, after all.

I have many, many more songs that I love and that fill me with joy, sadness, yearning and peace, but I figure I should just stick to a few! I encourage you this week to take time to listen to, dance to or play your favorite music. Get lost in it; feel everything you block out. Sing as loud as you can, dance as wildly as you can and play that piece of music to feel whatever you can. Be uninhibited, be thankful, be sad, be joyful, whatever you are, just be.
